10 Tips for Better Business Cards
Here’s a list of ten tips you should take into account when getting business
cards made for you.
- Get a logo on your card. Business cards with text only
are boring and do not jump out at the reader. By including a logo or some
sort of imagery on your card, the chances are greater it will stand out from
the rest and you will be remembered.
-
No bull*#!&. So you have your logo and all your contact
details on the card and there is still a little space? Don’t be tempted to
fill that in with a quote or personal message - they just look corny.
- Don’t forget the details. What is going to be the most
convenient way for this potential customer, client or business partner to
get in touch with you? Cover all your bases and include cell phone number,
email address and website if you have one.
- There’s more to meeting than a business card. Sure, a
business card might get your foot in the door and help someone remember you,
but you will need to bring more than a pack of cards to any meeting to get
some business out of it.
- Get your card made professionally. Cards made on home
with low grade printers on low grade paper simply don’t cut it, and with
very cheap or even
free professional business card offers
floating around the internet
there is no reason to make them yourself at home.
- Present the card with style. Don’t throw your card at
people, instead make it seem like you are giving them a valuable gift (which
you are!). Present it to them with both hands and try to make a big impact.
- Don’t be cheap. If your cards get damp, dirty, or some
of your details change then throw them away and get new ones. Nothing looks
worse than a business card with corrections made in pen or pencil all over
it.
- White is good. Why do you think that most business
cards are white? It’s simple - white says professional, anything else says
bad taste.
- Your name is most important. What part of the the
business card represents you the most? Probably not your work or club,
probably not your address or email either - it’s your name. Make this stand
out from the rest of the card contents through positioning and a larger
font.
- Keep them everywhere. You never know who you are going
to meet and likewise you should always have some of your business cards
ready to hand out. Keep some in your car, in your briefcase, in your jacket,
in your desk. Always have your card ready to hand out so you never have to
explain, upon receiving someone else’s card, why you can not give them
yours.
